TIGHT

A phrase that gets thrown around alot when talking about improving body composition is "getting tighter". This sounds good, but what the heck does that actually mean?

We all understand what it means to lose bodyfat (note that this is a different focus from losing 'weight'). However, this is only half of the equation of improving body composition.

The second part of this formula is gaining or maintaining muscle mass. The combination of the above fat loss and keeping the muscle mass is what we call "getting tighter".

Opposite of the process is when bodyfat might be lost, but there's no muscle (or the muscle is lost) which not only results in not having that nice tight look that many call 'muscle tone', but even worse, a metabolism that has slowed down due to decreased muscle mass.

At the end of the day, to have great shape, be leaner and maintain a strong metabolism to boot, focus on getting tight versus just 'losing weight'.
