I'm currently listening to the audio book Wonder by R.J. Palacio, which is a book about a boy with a disfigured face from a birth defect (a current movie as well).
I'm confident that there will be many more emotional takeaways from this book, but the one that I'm currently struck with is being kind to others.
Certainly, this includes those who on the outside look like they could use a kind word or gesture. However, it's also those who might be quiet, angry, rude or distant on the inside that need this just as much.
I know I've passed up on opportunities to lend a kind word. My hope is that next time I take a moment and intentionally offer kindness to someone who might need it.
