Creating Consistency in the Summer

I think summer is the most challenging time of year to stay consistent with your fitness and nutrition. A lot of people would probably say it's the holidays, but I disagree.
At least here in the Midwest, summer brings a lot more activities, and most of those activities revolve around food.
Barbecues, picnics, potlucks, family reunions, fairs, concerts, vacations. None of those things are bad. They're meant to be enjoyed. But they're usually not the kinds of meals you've planned for or prepared yourself, and if you don't have a plan, it's easy to lose consistency.
We travel, the days are longer, sleep can be tough, we need to create systems, not rely on motivation to stay consistent.
For me, it all starts with my morning routine. Starting my day the same sets me up for success. Part of this is 5-10 minutes of movement to get my mind, body and spirit ready to go.
The evening matters just as much. The things you do before bed often determine how successful your morning will be. Sometimes that's preparing breakfast ahead of time, laying out clothes or simply getting to bed at a reasonable hour.
Summer is meant to be enjoyed. I'm not suggesting you skip the vacations, cookouts or time with family. I'm suggesting you have a strategy that allows you to enjoy those things without feeling like you have to start over every fall.
