MEAL PREP FAIL

Recently the family and I took a vacation that included a substantial road trip. We were going to be doing a lot of hiking, so I packed accordingly, (of course the night before about 9 PM, lol). While I did a great job packing the clothes, toiletries and other stuff, I failed miserably when it came to packing food.

Now, I love meal prep and certainly have it listed often as a key impact factor with clients. However, if for some reason it doesn’t happen, or we’re put in a situation that doesn’t allow access, it’s also a good exercise to be able to be able to not fall apart in the event you don’t have a prepped meal.

Scrabble tiles spell "ADAPT OR FAIL" on a white background, conveying a choice between flexibility and failure.

So let’s go back to this situation. With two days of travel, what to do? Well, while I didn’t have to forage for food out in the wild, getting creative with gas stations and mini marts is key. There are a lot of options with some looking and flexibility. Jerky, fruit, protein bars, nuts, along with some minimally processed “fresh” food can get you by in a pinch.

This is where tracking macros really shines. Being flexible with your food choices as long as you hit your daily nutrition targets helps get through those tough spots. While eating on the go isn’t always the best, it’s also not a scenario where you just throw your hands up and make it a free-for-all.

Granted it was nice to get back to my normal high quality nutrition, but I didn’t fall off the rails and also, you can bet on the next road trip, I’ll have a bit more food inventory packed.
