SMALL WINS

With all the talk about hitting big goals, I want to downshift to focus on small wins.
Often it’s the big goal and destination that gets all the attention. We all know examples of this, a big bodyfat loss goal, perhaps a competition, a vacation or wedding, maybe the marathon. I’ve got some big goals myself (like improving a cardio goal) that I want to achieve this year.
While it’s great to set big goals, they can seem so distant into the future. They are likely weeks, months or even years into the future. What can happen is we lose sight of the things we are working towards and become delated.

The strategy of the small win is a not so secret technique that bridges the gap between goals set and goals achieved.
By focusing on small wins, we create momentum in our actions. This momentum then helps carry us to our next action needed to get the work done and goal accomplished.
What does this look like? Let me use an acronym that can help, M.I.N.S., Most Important Next Step.
If someone is looking to hit a huge body transformation goal, they are obviously going to need to spend lots of time training and dialing in their nutrition. However, the important thing here is to drill down on what that MINS is.

Initially, the goal might be to train 5x per week, however, this is not the win we are looking for. Maybe it’s getting the 60 min workout in tomorrow, that still isn’t the MINS we are looking for.
Simply getting to the gym, now that is a big win, but what has to happen to make sure it occurs?
Setting your clothes out the day before and getting to bed on time, those are most certainly MINS and should be considered a small win.
When mastering these small habits, it creates the consistency and momentum that will ensure the results will come.
