I'M PARTIAL

There's been a lot of talk lately on the importance and benefit of full range of motion in training. Specifically, getting a full stretch and the impact it makes on muscle response.

Besides taking repetitions to a full stretch and getting a good contraction, how else could you benefit from this protocol? Enter partial reps.


Completing partial reps is the technique of after completing a complete set of full ROM reps, you complete some partial reps at the end of the set to further stimulate anabolic response.


Before you accuse me of being a hypocrite about full ROM, let me add that these are partial reps in the stretched position.


I recommend doing these on your last set only in a given exercise and certainly not to failure. After completing your final set, go into the stretched position and complete 3-8 partial reps, focusing on keeping the tension on the muscles.


This is a technique to use sparingly so as not to overtrain but also on exercises where you can do so safely and effectively. Want to crank up the intensity? I'm partial to partials.
